What to expect from your Legal Map-Out

This is not a quick consultation or a generic checklist. We take time to understand your business, review the information you provide, meet with you to talk through your concerns, and prepare a personalized Plan of Action that gives you a place to start.

01 / BEFORE YOUR MEETING

We get to know your business.

After booking, complete your questionnaire, sign your engagement letter, and submit requested materials at least 72 hours before your meeting. We review what you have provided to prepare for a productive conversation.

02 / DURING YOUR MEETING

We talk through the big picture.

Meet with Destiny for approximately 90–120 minutes, by Zoom or in person. We discuss your business structure, agreements, brand protections, operations, and other relevant legal concerns.

03 / AFTER YOUR MEETING

You receive your roadmap.

We prepare your customized written Plan of Action, directly following your meeting. You also have 30 days to ask lingering follow-up questions about your Map-Out.

What's actually in your Plan of Action?

Think of it as a legal roadmap for your business—not just notes from our meeting. Each Plan of Action is tailored to your business, so the topics and recommendations will vary.

  • Business formation and foundation: entity structure, ownership, operating agreements, and related considerations.
  • Contracts: client, contractor, vendor, and collaboration agreements that may be needed.
  • Website and social media: terms, privacy policies, disclosures, and online business considerations.
  • Employment: policies and agreements to consider if you have or plan to hire a team.
  • Intellectual property: trademark, copyright, and related brand-protection considerations.
  • Other risk areas: additional concerns relevant to your operations and growth.
  • Recommendations in order of importance: a practical sequence of what to tackle first and what may be able to wait.

Getting started

What is a Legal Map-Out Meeting?
Our Legal Map-Out is a comprehensive legal strategy meeting designed to help you understand where your business stands and what deserves attention next. Before we meet, we review the questionnaire and relevant materials you provide. During our conversation, we look at your business as a whole, discuss potential gaps, and answer your questions. You leave with a personalized written Plan of Action that helps you decide what to address now, what can wait, and how to move forward with confidence.
Who is the Map-Out for?
Both brand-new and established business owners can benefit. You might be preparing to launch, operating for years without a complete legal review, adding new services, hiring people, or wondering whether your contracts and brand protections are keeping up with your growth. The meeting is tailored to where you are today—not where we think every business should be.
I already have an LLC. Is a Map-Out still useful?
Absolutely. Forming an LLC is an important step, but it is only part of protecting a business. We may also discuss your operating agreement, how you work with clients and contractors, website policies, trademarks, employment matters, and other risks. Even if you have already handled some of these items, the Map-Out can help identify what is working and what may need another look.
I have already drafted documents. Can you review them?
Yes! In fact, we encourage you to share relevant agreements, policies, and other materials before the meeting. Reviewing what you already have helps us avoid recommending work you may not need. We can discuss issues or gaps we notice as part of the Map-Out. Preparing new documents or making substantive revisions, however, is a separate service that we can discuss if appropriate.
What kinds of legal issues do you cover?
We take a broad look at the legal side of running your particular business. Depending on your operations, that may include formation and ownership, contracts, website and social media policies, intellectual property, employees or independent contractors, insurance and regulatory considerations, and other business-specific concerns. Not every category will apply to you, and that is part of the value of a personalized review.
Is the Map-Out a general consultation?
It's more involved than a typical one-hour consultation. We spend attorney time preparing before you arrive, use the meeting to work through your business and questions, and provide a written Plan of Action with prioritized recommendations. The goal is not simply to answer one question; it's to help you see the bigger legal picture and make a practical plan.
How long is the meeting?
Plan on approximately 90 minutes to two hours together. That is meeting time only: we also spend time reviewing the materials you submit and preparing for our discussion. We want enough time to understand your business, explain our recommendations, and make sure you have an opportunity to ask questions.
Can we meet over Zoom?
Yes! Zoom is available, and in-person meetings may also be arranged when scheduling permits. Please confirm your preferred meeting format with our team ahead of time. Whether we meet virtually or in person, you receive the same thoughtful preparation, strategy discussion, and written Plan of Action.
Can my business partner attend?
Often, yes—especially when your partner is involved in the decisions we will discuss. Please tell our team who plans to attend before the meeting. We need to confirm who the firm represents and address any confidentiality or potential conflict issues first, particularly when owners have different interests.
Do I need to have a business formed first?
Not at all. If you're still deciding whether to form an LLC, corporation, or another structure, the Map-Out can help you understand the considerations and questions to explore before taking that step. We can also discuss the agreements, brand protections, and other foundations you may want to plan for as you launch.

Your plan & what is included

What will I receive afterward?
You receive a customized written Legal Map-Out Plan of Action directly following the meeting. These plans are often around 20–25 pages, although length varies with your business. The document outlines legal areas we discussed and organizes recommendations so you have a practical reference when you're ready to take the next steps.
Is the Plan of Action just a meeting summary?
No. Think of it as your legal roadmap, not a transcript or a list of everything said in the room. It identifies important areas for your business, records relevant recommendations, and helps you distinguish higher-priority matters from items you can address later. You can refer back to it as you budget, plan, and grow.
When will I receive my Plan of Action?
You receive your customized Plan of Action directly following your Legal Map-Out Meeting. We prepare in advance and work through the recommendations together during the meeting, so you leave with a roadmap you can use right away—not a document you have to wait weeks to receive.
Will you draft or revise my contracts during the Map-Out?
The Map-Out includes discussion and appropriate review of the documents you provide; it does not include writing or revising contracts during the meeting. If we identify an agreement that needs to be created or updated, we'll explain why it matters and where it falls on your priority list. You can then decide whether to engage us for that separate project.
Will the meeting fix every legal issue in my business?
No—and it isn't intended to. The Map-Out is the assessment and strategy phase: we identify potential legal needs, explain their significance, and prioritize possible solutions. Completing filings, drafting agreements, conducting full trademark searches, and implementing other recommendations are separate projects. The advantage is that you'll have a clearer sense of what to tackle first.
Will I receive specific recommendations?
Yes. We want you to understand not just what we recommend, but why. Your Plan of Action reflects the legal areas relevant to your business and sets out recommendations in order of importance. Some matters may need prompt attention; others may be appropriate to revisit as your business grows.
Can I ask questions after the meeting?
Yes! We know that questions sometimes come to mind once you've had time to digest a detailed meeting. For 30 days afterward, you may send lingering questions related to your Map-Out through your Client Portal. This follow-up period is for clarification of the matters we covered; new issues, additional research, drafting, or separate legal projects are outside the Map-Out scope.
How do I ask follow-up questions?
Please use your secure Clio Client Portal or the firm's designated secure portal messaging option. Keeping follow-up questions in the portal helps us maintain an organized record and protect your information. If a question involves a new matter or additional legal work, we'll let you know what the next step would be.
Will you recommend services I do not need?
Our goal is the opposite: to help you make informed choices instead of paying for legal work without understanding whether you need it. We will identify areas that merit attention and distinguish them from items that may be able to wait. You are not required to hire Bounds Law to implement the recommendations, and we'll explain separate services only when they are relevant to your needs.

Pricing & scheduling

How much does a Legal Map-Out cost?
Our standard Legal Map-Out fee is $997 total. Businesses that qualify for our new-business rate may pay $497 total. Because the appropriate rate depends on your business's stage and circumstances, the attorney makes the final eligibility determination during the meeting. We'll explain how the retainer and any remaining balance apply.
Is the $497 booking retainer an additional fee?
No—the $497 booking retainer is credited toward your Map-Out fee; it is not an extra charge. For a standard $997 Map-Out, that means $497 is paid to reserve the meeting and the remaining $500 is due immediately afterward. If you qualify for the $497 new-business total rate, the retainer covers that fee, subject to the terms of your engagement.
Who qualifies for the $497 new-business rate?
The new-business rate is intended for businesses at an early stage, generally before an entity has been formed, meaningful operations have begun, or substantial legal documents have been put in place. Because businesses launch in different ways, there isn't a one-question test. We'll review your circumstances, and the attorney will determine whether the $497 total rate applies during the meeting.
Does the $497 rate include the same Map-Out?
Yes! The discounted rate does not mean a shortened meeting or a smaller deliverable. Qualifying new businesses receive the same core Map-Out process, written Plan of Action, and 30-day period for lingering follow-up questions. The difference is the rate—not the attention we give your business.
When do I have to submit my questionnaire and documents?
Please complete your questionnaire and provide the requested documents at least 72 hours before your meeting. We do substantive preparation in advance, and receiving materials on time allows us to focus our meeting on strategy instead of collecting basic information. If required onboarding items are missing at the deadline, your meeting may need to be canceled or rescheduled under the applicable terms.
Do I need to sign an engagement letter?
Yes. Your engagement letter explains the scope of our work, the fee arrangement, and important expectations for both you and the firm. Please sign it as part of your onboarding, along with completing the questionnaire and submitting any requested materials, before your scheduled meeting.
Where do I upload documents?
Once our team sets up your matter, you'll receive access to your secure Clio Client Portal. Please upload requested agreements, business records, and other sensitive documents there rather than sending them by ordinary email or personal text. If you have trouble accessing the portal, let our team know so we can help.
What if I have no contracts or documents yet?
That's completely fine! Many new business owners come to us precisely because they aren't sure which documents they need. Complete the questionnaire thoroughly and provide whatever materials you do have, even if that's only basic information about your business and plans. We'll use the meeting to help identify which documents and protections may make sense as you move forward.
What if I cancel or reschedule within 72 hours?
Because we reserve substantial attorney preparation time for each meeting, cancellations or rescheduling within the 72-hour window generally result in a $250 fee, deducted from your $497 retainer under our standard policy. Please notify us as early as possible if your plans change. Your signed engagement letter controls the specific terms that apply to your booking.
What happens if I miss my meeting?
Please contact our team as soon as possible if an emergency or scheduling problem arises. A missed appointment may be subject to the no-show, cancellation, or rescheduling provisions in your signed engagement letter. We can explain the options available for your particular appointment once we know what happened.
Can I choose Zoom instead of an office visit?
Yes. Just let our team know that you prefer Zoom when confirming your meeting details. If we haven't received a confirmed location preference, we may set the meeting as a Zoom appointment so you still have a clear way to attend. You'll receive the relevant meeting information from our team.

Trademarks & legal projects

Will you look at my business name or trademark?
We can discuss your business name, branding plans, and initial trademark considerations during the Map-Out. Where appropriate, that may include a preliminary knockout review to spot obvious concerns worth exploring further. It's a helpful starting point for strategy, but it is not a substitute for a comprehensive search or a final clearance recommendation.
Is a knockout review a full trademark search?
No, and the distinction is important. A knockout review is an initial look for obvious potential conflicts. A full trademark search is a separate, more comprehensive service that considers a broader range of potential issues and supports a more informed filing recommendation. We don't want you to assume that a quick initial check means a name is cleared for use or registration.
Do I also need a separate trademark consultation?
Not always. Sometimes the Map-Out gives us enough context to recommend moving directly to a comprehensive trademark search. In other situations—such as complicated naming questions, multiple brands, or more involved filing strategy—a separate focused trademark consultation may be helpful. We'll explain which approach makes sense after reviewing your circumstances; you don't automatically need to pay for both.
Does the Map-Out include filing a trademark?
No. Trademark filings are not included in the Map-Out fee. We can discuss whether a trademark search or application may be appropriate and where it fits among your priorities. A comprehensive search, application preparation, government filing fees, and any additional prosecution work are handled under separate services and terms.
How does the trademark package pricing work?
Our standard full trademark search and application package is $1,647 plus applicable government fees. The $600 comprehensive search is a phase of that package, not an additional $600 on top of the package price. If a separate $295 trademark consultation is appropriate, that consultation fee may also be credited toward the full package under the firm's applicable terms. We'll explain the sequence and any additional work before you commit.
Can I get a firm contract quote before the Map-Out?
We can sometimes provide a general starting range, but a reliable quote for a customized agreement usually requires understanding your business, how the document will be used, and what you already have. The Map-Out helps us identify the scope so we can recommend the right document and avoid quoting for work that doesn't fit your needs.
Can you help implement my Plan of Action?
Absolutely. Many clients use the Map-Out as the starting point for a longer-term legal plan. If you want help with a particular recommendation—such as an operating agreement, client contract, trademark search, or website policies—we can discuss a separate engagement and timeline. You can also ask about membership options if ongoing support would be useful. There is no obligation to retain us for additional work.

Membership & continued support

Do I have to join a membership?
No. The Legal Map-Out stands on its own, and you are never required to purchase a membership afterward. Some clients prefer to address recommendations one project at a time; others appreciate ongoing access and support. We'll explain the options, and you can decide what fits your business and budget.
When can I become a member?
Generally, eligibility for the Legalfluence Lounge begins after you've completed a Legal Map-Out within the previous year, along with the applicable enrollment and engagement process. That helps us understand your business before providing ongoing support. If you're interested, we'll review the available tiers and confirm whether membership is the right fit.
What membership tiers are available?
The Legalfluence Lounge offers different levels of support. Tier 1 starts at $97 per month and focuses on access and guidance rather than included drafting hours; pricing can vary with employee count. Accelerator is $397 per month and includes two hours of qualifying customized legal time, while New Venture is $997 per month and includes seven hours. Each tier has its own scope, benefits, and terms, which we'll review before enrollment.
Does Tier 1 include custom legal drafting?
No. Tier 1 is designed for ongoing access, education, and attorney questions within the membership's scope—not for substantive legal research, customized drafting, or document revisions. If you need those services, we can discuss a separate project or whether a tier with included legal-work hours would better serve you.
Does unlimited portal communication mean unlimited attorney work?
No. We want you to feel comfortable reaching out with questions, but unlimited portal communication is not the same as unlimited legal services. Substantive research, drafting, document review, and other attorney work must fall within your tier's included hours or be billed separately under the applicable agreement. We'll clarify that distinction before work begins.
Can I use membership time for my Map-Out recommendations?
Yes, when a recommended project is within the scope of your membership tier. For example, eligible drafting or review work may be applied against the legal hours included in an Accelerator or New Venture membership. The amount of time required depends on the project, so included hours do not necessarily cover every item on your Plan of Action or guarantee completion within one month.
Do unused membership hours roll over?
No. Included legal-work hours are tied to each monthly billing period and do not carry forward if unused. We encourage members to plan their priorities with us so they can make thoughtful use of the time available under their tier.
What is the minimum membership commitment?
Our monthly memberships generally require an initial three-month commitment. This allows time to establish an ongoing working relationship and address priorities in a practical way. The signed membership agreement explains your exact billing periods, minimum term, and any notice requirements, so please review it before enrolling.
Can I pause or cancel a membership?
Yes, subject to your signed membership agreement. Generally, pause and cancellation requests must be made with the required advance notice and take effect according to your monthly billing periods, not simply the calendar month. A request made shortly before the next payment may not stop that upcoming charge, and fees are not prorated. Pauses also cannot begin before the initial three-month commitment has been satisfied. Please contact us through your portal so we can confirm the effective date for your account.
Do members receive discounts?
Eligible active members may receive discounts on qualifying Bounds Law professional fees, depending on the tier and service. Those benefits generally do not apply to government filing fees or third-party expenses. We'll explain the benefits that actually apply to your membership rather than assuming every service receives the same discount.
Important: These answers are general information, not individualized legal advice. Engagement letters and signed agreements govern specific services and fees.
